Growing Up at Reyim
Our children are integral to the life of the Reyim community. We see children holistically, honor and nurture their spiritual imagination, and teach them to sing, pray, ask questions and form loving friendships with peers and with community members of different generations.
We love the sounds of little ones filling the Sanctuary, both prayerful and playful. You’ll also find them confidently roaming the halls, courtyard and outdoor play spaces. Our children feel that Reyim is a second home, and we love seeing them grow up connected to their community. They are always welcome to ask Rabbi Berman for Hershey Kisses or sports cards, which he gives out with reckless abandon.
Shabbat and Holiday Services
We have several programs for children on Shabbat and holidays. Each program meets once a month. Services and programs are grouped by age, with unique approaches designed for each group, including:
- Young Family Shabbat for Toddlers through First Grade
- Torah Learning for Grades 2-5
- Middle School/B’nei Mitzvah Torah study with Rabbi Berman
You can find the dates and times of each of these services and programs on our calendar.
Libeynu Hebrew School
Libeynu – meaning “our hearts” – is our K-5 after-school Jewish youth education program. We meet Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-5:45 p.m. during the school year. Our students learn Hebrew and Torah with a focus on the Jewish year cycle – Shabbat and holidays – as well as the Jewish rituals that help them develop strong connections with Jewish history, spirituality and community. The program is creative and full of joyful learning, music and drama. Please be in touch with Rabbi Berman to learn more.
Becoming B’nei Mitzvah
Our students and their families participate in a two-year educational program designed to help them form meaningful friendships, feel connected to and comfortable with the Reyim community, and strengthen their Jewish identity and understanding of our ancient tradition.
Students begin the program at the start of their sixth-grade year. The B’nei Mitzvah program includes monthly Friday evening programs as well as monthly participation in our prayer service and Torah study with Rabbi Berman on Shabbat mornings.
Staying Connected as Teens
Many of our teens build on the skills they develop as they prepare for their B’nei Mitzvah and continue to lead the community in prayer and chant Torah and Haftarah. Others become mentors and teaching assistants for the younger kids in Libeynu, our Jewish youth education after-school program. Some plan and lead activities for younger kids on Shabbat and Holidays.
