Legacy Giving
Including Reyim as part of an estate plan is an act of kindness and generosity that will contribute to the vitality of Reyim for generations. In addition to strengthening the congregation, legacy gifts may offer tax advantages, allowing you to support our shul’s long-term health and your own personal estate needs.
Featured Legacy Gift: Ed Shade
Our congregation continues to benefit from Ed Shade’s generosity through his unrestricted legacy gift. Ed was an artist, musician and poet. He built a meaningful connection with many of our members and with Rabbi Berman, learning Torah, composing melodies for children and playing music together. Ed’s legacy gift has already made a tremendous impact at Reyim by, in part, supporting our rabbinic intern team that provided spiritual leadership during Rabbi Berman’s 2023 sabbatical.
Part of Ed’s legacy gift was also directed towards debt relief that has significantly reduced our annual operating expenses, enabling us to redirect funds away from debt repayment and towards the mission of Reyim.
The remaining portion of Ed’s legacy gift will be directed towards a special future initiative in Ed’s honor and connected to his passions.

How to Participate
First Option: Bequests
- What is a bequest? A bequest is a simple and powerful way to make a lasting impact through your will or living trust. When you include Temple Reyim in your will, you’re making a commitment to allocate a portion of your assets or a fixed sum to support our mission once your other obligations have been fulfilled. By specifying a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate, you can tailor your gift to align with your financial circumstances and the level of support you’d like to provide.
- Flexibility: Bequests offer significant flexibility. You can adjust the details of your bequest at any time if your financial situation or priorities change. This flexibility ensures that your legacy gift remains aligned with your values and goals.
Second Option: Beneficiary Designations
- What are Beneficiary Designations? Beneficiary designations allow you to make a significant contribution to Reyim by naming Reyim as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy or retirement account. It’s a straightforward process that can be completed by contacting your insurance company or retirement account provider and specifying Reyim as a beneficiary.
- No Impact on Current Finances: This option allows you to support vibrant Jewish life without affecting your current financial situation. It’s an efficient way to make a substantial gift that doesn’t require immediate financial outlays.
